Description
The Nauvoo Temple, a building of great significance to the people of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, was built in the mid 19th century in the city of Nauvoo, Illinois. It was a house of worship where sacred ordinances were performed. Before the building was completed, the leader of the church was imprisoned and assassinated. After the building's completion, the members of the church had only a matter of months to utilize the temple they had worked so hard and sacrificed so much to build. Mobs persecuted the church members and drove them out of their beautiful city, that rivaled Chicago in it's day, and migrated to the salt lake valley in northern Utah.
The Nauvoo Temple was burned to the ground, and much of old Nauvoo was lost.
In 2002, however, the temple was rebuilt just as beautiful as the original, and is now a fully funtioning temple.
